1928 Pierce Arrow Series
81
When you talk about cars
of the 30s, Ford gets all the press as many people don't even
realize how many different manufacturers there were prior to then.
Even after being in business for as many years as we have there are
undoubtedly car names that we haven't even come across yet.
One of these manufacturers was the Pierce Arrow Motor Car Company.
Active from 1901 to 1938 Pierce Arrow was known for fire trucks,
motorcycles, bicycles and above all their luxury vehicles. In
fact one cause of their demise was not sacrificing quality in their
cars which led to high priced vehicles that just couldn't compete
with the cheaper assembly line constructed cars that had cutting
cost down to a science. To this day, Pierce Arrows rarely come
up for sale and when you see them it is typically in a museum or
hidden car collection.
This 1928 Pierce Arrow
Series 81 Club Brougham is a very solid older restored original car
that. It is the 2 door style which you don't see very often.
The car runs and drives smoothly so it can be easily enjoyed and
shown as is but would also make a great base for full restoration as
everything is there. It is painted Black and Red which is a
great color combo that gets a ton of complements. All of the
original stainless and chrome is there and despite showing its age a
little still has a great shine. One of the coolest things
about this car is all of the unique features in place that just
aren't around anymore. Little areas like the spring loaded
front crash bar are neat to check out especially if you have any
interest in engineering or the mechanics of how something works.
The front headlights are incorporated into the bumpers with the rear
brake light, running light and back up light acting as the license
plate holder. The side mirrors are all mounted to the
spares on each side. You could spend hours upon hours just
investigating how they built the car and designed these features
back in 1928. Even the fact that it has wood spoke wheels is
something a lot of people never imagined seeing on a running/driving
car.
Powering the car is a
flat 6 cylinder motor combined with an 3 manual that shifts
smoothly. This is by no means a race car but it does cruise
around with ease. The interior is in great condition and
complete in a Dove Grey cloth. All of the passenger
compartments are roomy and the car would be ideal for someone
needing extra room for cruising around town with the family.
The dash and steering wheel are all woodgrain and the original
gauges are in place and still utilize the bronze style bezels.
If you need extra storage space then have no fear because the car
has a rear trunk in place with an additional grate on the bumper
should you want to add another trunk.
If you spend some times
looking around you will see there aren't a lot of these cars out
there. In fact less than 2500 Pierce Arrows are even known to
still exist!
