We have all heard of the
Super Birds, the Cudas and Chargers. But how many of you know
about the 1965 Dodge Coronet that you could special order with the
A990 Hemi package? Well you are looking at a great tribute to
this rare Mopar.
It was construction by
the Crosswhite brothers of Mopar Super Stock fame. When they decided
to build this car, they wanted to make it as close to the
original as possible. And you will have to agree that they did
a great job.
The thing that really
makes this car is the huge 426 Hemi Ramcharger power plant under the
hood. The first thing you see is the Dick Landy prepared Cross
Ram aluminum intake with twin Holley 770 cfm carburetors. Then
you will notice the 2 vintage 65 aluminum heads that have been
meticulously machined and equipped with Mopar stainless valves. The
block was prepared using some tricks that the brothers had learned
from running these massive motors down the drag strip at over 7,500
rpm for the last quarter of a century. They know what it takes
to make these motors not only put out maximum power, but to
last. With its 10.5 to 1 pistons and .557 lift solid lifter cam
shaft, this machine is Hemi power at its best. Backed up
by a built A883 4 speed transmission and a bullet proof Dana 60 rear
end equipped with 35 spine axles and 4:10 gears, this car will
snap your head back with every shift.
The body of the car was
prepared just like the originals and is straight as can be with not
a speck of rust to be found. It is covered in a beautiful
House of Kolor Intense Blue metal flake paint that glistens in the
sun. The interior is done in tan and is right on with its rear seat
panel and block offs for the radio and heater delete. With American
Racing Hopster wheels (4 inch up front and 15X10 in rear) the
car has just the right stance.
If it were not for us
telling you this was a tribute car, not even the biggest Mopar
enthusiast would know it was not the real thing. The detail
that went into its construction is apparent from the front bumper to
the rear. It was a feature car in the February 2008 issue of
Mopar Muscle magazine as shown in the pictures below.
